Ranches Ladies Newsletter

Good morning Ranches Ladies!

Summer’s Here!

Whether it’s taking a vacation, going on holiday or having a summer break, July is for many Ranches Ladies the start of the holiday season. There are those that’ll stay in Dubai, those that will be gone for the whole period and some who’ll come and go dipping in and out of the city. Plans to see family and friends, visit far away places and generally take the opportunity for some rest and relaxation, everyone’s idea of holidays in July and August are a very personal thing.

No doubt there’ll be plenty of souvenirs and goodies being packed in suitcases for a return to Dubai. The birth of the souvenir originated in the mid 17th century to the early 19th century for mainly young men embarking on a Grand Tour of Europe, when they would return to their homes with art, furniture, jewellery and other unusual curiosities that were found on their travels. While for Japanese individuals omiyage was the tradition of buying gifts and local specialties for family, friends and colleagues.

In other cultures around the world travel was for trade, pilgrimage or migration rather than holidays. It would therefore be practical, useful items that were brought back instead of souvenirs.

The modern custom of buying a T-shirt, fridge magnet or key ring or anything else from a place you’ve visited has developed from the 20th century tourism industry and is very much part of more recent behaviours.

So whatever the summer brings for our Ranches Ladies we wish them all safe travels and fabulous journeys. Wonderful memories and moments to enjoy.

Ranches Ladies Community Events

The Jewellery Clinic

The Ranches Ladies Jewellery Clinic was the first of a series of summer pop ups that will take place throughout July and August at Rustic Home in Cityland Mall. Ladies were invited to bring along pieces of jewellery to either repurpose, redesign or simply repair. It was a fabulous event enjoyed by many of our members.

Ranches Ladies Summer Pop-Ups & Activites

While many of our members head off on their travels, Ranches Ladies will be keeping the community spirit alive with a slightly different programme over the summer months. We’ll be hosting a variety of pop-up events both during our regular coffee mornings and at special locations around Dubai. Our members staying in the UAE can still come together to try something new and enjoy time with friends.

Our first summer pop-up, the Jewellery Circle Clinic was a dazzling success, with members dropping in for jewellery consultations, repairs, and creative inspiration. It was a wonderful way to begin our summer programme.

We’re also delighted that Rustic Home has kindly offered to host Ranches Ladies throughout the hot months, giving us a welcoming space for the pop-up events still to come.

Here’s what’s coming up:

July: A fun and creative Fluid Painting Workshop, perfect for both beginners and experienced artists.

August: A Book Reading and Author Talk with a young author who grew up in Dubai, sharing her journey and her work.

We’ll also be adding a few special activities to our coffee mornings, including mandala colouring, as well as short introductory sessions to launch new activities and Circles we hope to debut in the future.

Whether you’re spending your time in Dubai or simply looking for a relaxed and enjoyable way to connect, we’d love for you to join us. Details will be posted on our Ranches Ladies WhatsApp and in our newsletter.

Keeping Fit This Summer

There are many ways to keep fit in the hot summer months here in Dubai and The Dubai Sports Council and shopping malls across the city are supporting this mindset.

At Ibn Battuta Mall, the Walk to Unlock initiative gives shoppers the opportunity to keep fit while accruing exclusive offers and rewards from participating retailers. Running from 5th June to 1st August, shoppers are encouraged to hit 6000, 8000, or 12000 steps to unlock bonuses.  To take part, simply download the FITZE App, head into the mall and follow the guided indoor walking route and motivational floor stickers. The FITZE App tracks every step in real time allowing shoppers to accrue and redeem rewards in a variety of outlets. The full list of vendors is available on the App.

The Dubai Mallathon is a city-wide initiative led by Dubai Sports Council.  Running from 15th June to 15th September across six participating malls, Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Hills Mall, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif and Dubai Festival City.  The malls are transformed into morning fitness hubs, between 6am and 10am, with walkways, hydration stations, kids zones, step tracking and special offers making healthy living both accessible and sociable.

Why not take advantage and walk your way to summer fitness!

Coffee Mornings

Even though many have left for cooler climes this summer, we have had lots of people to chat with at our Tuesday coffee mornings. Come along to Larte at Studio One Hotel for a coffee and some lively conversation with friends old and new.

Circles Activities

While many Circles have taken a break from their usual schedules for the summer months, there are many which are continuing to meet. Members can also expect events that the Ranches Ladies will be able enjoy in July and August. Take a look at some of the fabulous activities enjoyed by our members in June and early July.

The Lunch Circle

The Lunch Circle met at Vera Vessilia in The Kempinski Hotel at Mall of the Emirates for a sumptuous Italian feast. Ladies enjoyed wonderful savoury dishes including buratta salad, kale salad, calamari friti, beef carpaccio, salmon, sea bass, margherita pizza, risotto, roast baby chicken and a calamari and olive pasta. The sweet treats that followed were gorgeous, a traditional tiramisu, a burnt orange creme caramel and a palate tingling lemon sorbet that most agreed was the dessert of the day! A huge thank you to Karen for putting together this wonderful lunch. Everyone agreed that the food and the company were fabulous.

The Afternoon Tea Circle

The Afternoon Tea Circle enjoyed a magnificent high tea at Maison Devoille in the One and Only One Zabeel. A beautifully presented fruity mocktail set the scene for a lavish selection of treats. First up, a trio of sandwiches, followed by a decadent array of pastries, scones, cream and fruit compote all exquisitely arranged on a hot air balloon. The conversation flowed as freely as the teas and coffees. Service and attention to detail was impeccable. Everyone agreed it was a marvellous afternoon.

The Canasta Circle

The Canasta Circle enjoying their weekly game at Park Inn Hotel in Motor City.

The Yoga Circle

The Yoga Circle came together for a beautiful morning of yoga, breathwork, live harp music, and a nourishing breakfast. A special gathering to celebrate another year together, filled with connection and shared moments.

Thank you to all Yoga Circle members for being part of this wonderful community.

The Wellbeing Circle

Our Wellbeing Circle explored a simple but powerful question, “Who am I beneath the roles I play?” Many of us spend years being the caregiver, the partner, the mother, the professional, the helper or the one who holds everything together. Sometimes, in the middle of meeting everyone else’s needs, we lose sight of our own voice.

The evening wasn’t about finding all the answers. It was about creating space to pause, reflect and gently reconnect with ourselves beyond the responsibilities we carry each day.

Awareness is often where meaningful change begins.

The AquaFit Circle

The AquaFit ladies continue to enjoy their “cool pool” workout even as the weather warms up. With the pool temperature being perfect, the ladies have fun while getting fitter with friends! What a great way to start the day!

The Scrabble Circle

The Scrabble Circle have been meeting at Sisi’s Eatery in Arabian Ranches for some friendly competition. Sajna was the ultimate Scrabble queen, using all her letters for a 50 point bonus and an overall score of 72 for “creator”. Rania took the Rummikub crown and Marina introduced a new game called Sequence. All in all, a fun afternoon with plenty of laughter and gentle rivalry. Don’t forget, Ranches Ladies receive 15% discount on food and beverages at Sisi’s, just show your membership card to the staff.

The Book Circle

The Book Circle had a lovely morning at Iran Zamin restaurant discussing The Lion Women of Tehran over a traditional Iranian breakfast. We were joined by a special guest, Anita Mehra, a longtime UAE resident who is American/Iranian and grew up in Iran. We felt that the book was extremely well written and the characters incredibly believable. We were all touched by the power of the friendship between the two friends.

The staff at Iran Zamin made us very welcome and the food was excellent. We were lucky enough to meet the owner who kindly showed us a replica of the Cyrus the Great Cylinder and explained its meaning. The original artifact was excavated in Babylon (modern-day Iraq) in 1879 and is permanently housed in the British Museum. The Book Circle will be taking a break in July and August and our next meeting will be Friday 25th September when we will be discussing John and Paul: A Love Story in Songs by Ian Leslie

The Quilters Circle

The Quilting Circle celebrated their last meeting in June with a one day retreat and luncheon. We had a wonderful day working on UFO (unfinished projects), relaxing and just enjoying being with each other. Helen completed the yearly BOM project called Farm Girl Vintage. Although the Circle is finished for the summer our sewing bees shall remain quite active in the long hot months.

The Walking Circle

The Monday Walking Circle meet at Dubai Hills Mall at 9am each week.

The Wednesday Walking Circle continue to meet at Mall of the Emirates for a stroll and plenty of chatter all topped off with a coffee and more conversation. A wonderful way to hit those 10,000 steps!
