Ranches Ladies Newsletter

Good Morning Ranches Ladies.
Hope you had a great Eid weekend and have a good week ahead.
Coffee Morning with HeroGo

There was a good turnout at Larte on Tuesday 18th April to hear an interesting and informative presentation by Donna from HeroGo: the UAEs first grocery subscription service that helps fight food waste.
Food wastage is a problem all over the world. Did you know that in the UAE, one third of food grown gets thrown into landfill? This is not only a waste of good food but also the water and other resources used to produce it. Landfills cause air pollution due to carbon dioxide and methane gases produced.
Donna and the team at HeroGo are on a mission to reduce food waste by rescuing fresh produce that would otherwise be thrown away because of an oversupply, or because the fruit or vegetables are a different size or shape and get rejected by supermarkets. HeroGo is also raising awareness in the community about reducing food waste.
HeroGo grocery deliveries work on a subscription basis. You can sign up to receive a box of fruit, vegetables, or one with both, starting from 50 AED for a small box, every week or fortnight. The fruit and vegetables supplied will depend on what has been rescued that week, but you will be informed what is coming and get helpful recipe ideas on how to use the produce. You can pause or cancel the subscription anytime, with no strings attached. HeroGo hopes to expand to other types of groceries such as bakery, meat and dairy in the future.
In a few clicks on the HeroGo website, you save up to 40% on your regular grocery bill – plus help to save the planet and its resources.

RL members can use code RANCHES to save 25% off first their 3 boxes.
2023 is the Year of Sustainability in the UAE. A guide to building other lasting sustainable habits, such as promoting food portioning, switching to slow fashion, adopting a more plant-based diet and reducing red meat consumption is available on the UAE Year of Sustainability’s website.
Farewell and Thank you to Supriya
by Jackie Daair

Supriya Sharma has been running the ATF Mahjong and Shanghai circles for many years but will be leaving Dubai soon to join her husband who has been relocated to New Jersey.
Supriya has been a member of RL for many years and writes “RL club, just like Dubai, has become a part of me and I am ever so grateful to Carole and all the ladies such as Jackie, Hayet and everyone to keep this going, may it prosper even more and remain as beautiful.”
I would like to thank Supriya for all the support she has given to me as Circles Coordinator and I’m sure all the ladies would like to wish her and her family all the best for the future.
Mary-Anne Hasdell and Marina Rashid have kindly offered to take care of the Shanghai circle. Supriya will continue to manage ATF Mahjong via her business.

Newsletter Contributions

What would you like to share with other RL members?
We need short (200-300 word) articles for this newsletter, with photos if possible. It would be great to have an article for each week’s newsletter.
Please email any items for the newsletter to ranches.ladies@gmail.com before midday on Friday for inclusion in the next Monday’s newsletter.
RL Circles News

The number of Circles activities have increased so it is not possible to fit each one on the newsletter every week. See the Circles Calendar on the website for more activities. The new calendar for May is now available.
International Lunch Circle

Global Africa Day is celebrated on 25th May and Jackie Daair has offered to host an African Lunch for the International Lunch Circle (date to be decided) if there are enough ladies either from an African country, or with links to one, who are willing to prepare dishes. It would be great if there are some members willing to come in their national dress and tell us something about their home country. Anyone who is willing to help please get in touch with Jackie via circles.ranches.ladies@gmail.com
May 25th is Africa Day, formerly called African Freedom Day. It is the annual commemoration of the creation of the Organization of African Unity back in 1963, renamed the African Union in 2002. The OAU aimed to eradicate colonialism, foreign domination and exploitation, and encourage political and economic integration among member states.
