St Valentine’s Morning at Larte with ‘The Wandering Chefs’

Well who could turn down a morning that included two Italian men cooking for us on Valentines Day?
We assembled at Larte from 10.30am and there was a buzz in the air and a sense of anticipation. We were guided to our tables which had been lovingly prepared for us with a choice of ingredients.
First things first, we donned our chefs hats and aprons and listened to Guiseppe and Geualdo… two Italian chefs from Sicily. They spoke to us about the benefits of eating local produce seasonally. Then we were given our own plates with pre-prepared dough. We were shown how to knead the air out of the dough and then top it with tomato sauce and our choice of mushrooms, olives, salami and mozzarella cheese. Thereafter, all that remained was to have our ‘masterpieces’ cooked in the pizza oven. This took only 5 to 10 mins. The aroma in the vicinity was delicious… we were all feeling hungry. Finally our pizzas were served and they were delicious! It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning with lots of banter, happy faces and stomachs.

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Tournament
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships are now on until the 4th March.
We have been offered a limited number complementary tickets for RL members only, on a first come first served basis, for matches on this Monday to Wednesday: 20th, 21st and 22nd February.

Join us for tea or coffee and a chat on Tuesday mornings at Larte, Studio One Hotel in Studio City, 10.30am to 12 midday.

Wanted – Newsletter Contributions
A big thank you to Marina for her write-up of the Valentine’s Day event. What can you share about what you have been doing in your Circle groups? Could you write about your favourite place to visit, or anything else that would be of interest to other RL members?
We need short (200-300 word) articles for this newsletter, with photos if possible. It would be great to have an article for each week’s newsletter.

The number of Circles activities have increased so it is not possible to fit each one on the newsletter every week. See the Circles Calendar on the website for more activities.
Lunch Circle
The Lunch Circle is restarting, led by one of our new members, Karen Weaving.
The first lunch is planned for Monday 6th March from 12 noon at Avli by Tashas Greek Restaurant in DIFC.
Their 3 course business lunch is 130 AED and a deposit is required in advance to book your place (as the restaurant charge for no-shows).

Gardening Circle
The Gardening Circle, led by Jackie, meet once a month. The next meeting is Thursday 23rd February and the topic is “Plants for a shady garden.”

Walking Fitness Circle
Come and join the Walking Circle while the weather is still not too hot. Meet on Mondays at 7.15am outside the main entrance of the Community Retail centre in Arabian Ranches to walk for around one hour. Tea/coffee in Costa afterwards at 8.15am.

Beach Walking Circle
The Beach Walking Circle, led by Monika, at Kite beach (Blue Villas parking) on Tuesdays at 6.30am, walk for around 7-8 km and stop for coffee afterwards.

Storytelling Circle
The Storytelling Circle meet once a month on a Monday afternoon from 2.30 – 4.30pm at Carole’s villa in Savannah, Arabian Ranches 1. Members come prepared to talk for a short while on a given theme.
The theme for the next meeting on 13th March is “My Favourite Author.”

Spanish Circle
The Spanish Circle have ben following a course A1.1 and recently did an exam with amazing results. Well done everyone!
The Spanish Circle, led by Maria, meet in Dubai Marina with beautiful view over the marina. Thursday mornings for beginners and Friday mornings for beginners and intermediates.

Embroidery Circle
The new Embroidery Circle, led by Saba, are meeting on Thursdays 10.30am-12pm (not Wednesday as announced earlier) at Saba’s home in Al Furjan. Materials will be supplied for new ladies to get them started.

The Art Circle, led by Rajul, have been busy learning new techniques and creating stunning paintings on various themes.

Pilates Circle
Gillian from Optimal Fitness is teaching the Pilates circle on Thursday afternoons at 2pm, at Optimal Fitness in Studio City.
As there are now a lot of ladies coming, Gillian has offered to start a second class on Mondays at 10.30am, if there is enough interest.

French Circle
The French Circle were happy to see their previous teacher Dominique who came to visit us during her holiday. They have grown to a group of 7 students at intermediate level for French conversation.

The Book Circle, led by Jackie, are reading A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry – a stunning and heartbreaking tale of four very different people whose lives intersect during the state imposed emergency of 1975.
