Interior Design Presentation Coffee Morning

On Tuesday 24th January a large number of Ranches Ladies and friends, attended the Coffee morning held at the Larte, Studio One Hotel, Studio City, where we were enthralled by a presentation given by an experienced and knowledgeable young lady called Marta Paloma of Interior Design Studio AM.
Marta explained many helpful and useful ideas on how to enhance and improve the overall look of a room by simple but very effective adjustments, resulting in outstanding and remarkable appearances.
For instance, the uniting of furniture with a rug or small carpet should be done by positioning the carpet underneath the front legs of a settee. Along with an idea regarding a rug in the dining room area and as to how it should be placed. Curtain rails should be placed a good foot above the frames of windows – a fact which seemed to have escaped the curtain firm who came to fit mine!
The use of mirrors and their placement can enhance rooms by optically giving the impression of enlarging the dimensions of a room, by reflecting and extending the refraction of light. Marta also mentioned complementing furnishings, using a colour wheel, or the use of monochromatic hues and shades.
Dressing a room is a personal choice, along with your choice of modern or classic furniture, that also applies to textures along with cushions.
Marta ended her talk by having a question and answer session which proved to be very interesting too. One particular idea was raised regarding metals. Apparently you don’t need to have one particular type of metal as it is acceptable to vary the metals without spoiling the overall presentation of a room.
I found the talk to be most interesting and I learnt a considerable amount. It was enlightening and gave us new ideas as to how to visualise and maybe revamp a room or two!

Emirates Literature Festival
1st – 6th February
The 15th Emirates Airline Festival of Literature will be held between 1st and 6th February with events at both The Intercontinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City and the new Mohammed Bin Rashid Library in Al Jadaf.
Emirates LitFest is the Arab World’s largest celebration of the written and spoken word and one of the world’s leading international literary festivals, with around 250 local and international authors participating in around 300 sessions and workshops on a wide variety of topics. Join us for tea or coffee and a chat on Tuesday mornings at Larte, Studio One Hotel in Studio City, 10.30am to 12 midday. You can also join or renew your RL membership and find out about activities on offer.

Literary Lunch Circle
The Literary Lunch Circle last Monday for the first time in 2023 at a nice restaurant called “Huqqabaz Garden” in Mall of the Emirates. They enjoyed discussing the book “Seven Moons by Maali Almeida” over a nice meal in great surroundings.
The next book is Demon Copperhead, by Barbara Kingsolver – a reimagining of Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield, set in a modern-day rural American community contending with poverty and opioid addiction.
They hope to meet to discuss this book on the 20th of February.
Gardening Circle
Angelique from Agriculture Box has kindly offered to repeat her workshop on organic urban farming at her villa in Jumeirah on Friday 3rd February, for those who missed the previous meeting.

The Walking Circle meet on Mondays at 7.15am outside the main entrance of the Community Retail centre in Arabian Ranches to walk for around one hour. Tea/coffee in Costa afterwards at 8.15am.

Beach Walking Circle
The Beach Walking Circle, led by Monika, at Kite beach (Blue Villas parking) on Tuesdays at 6.30am, walk for around 7-8 km and stop for coffee afterwards.

Quilters Circle
Ranches Ladies Quilters are a group within Ranches Ladies who love creating with quilting, sewing and embroidery.

Gillian from Optimal Fitness is teaching the Pilates circle on Thursday afternoons at 2pm, at Optimal Fitness in Studio City.
