Good Morning Ranches Ladies.
Hope you have a great week ahead.
by Vidhya Michael
This is for all the current and future empty nesters here, me included. How do you let go of those tiny hands you gave birth to and let them loose into this cruel world?
Why do we use the analogy of apron strings? An apron is for protection; we love to protect our children and the strings are what hold them close. We have all kinds of options for what to do with those apron strings – loosen, untie slowly, or cut them completely. What should we do for the best – for our children and ourselves? Each one of us deals with it differently and for me it was different with each child. Did I show that it affected me at all? No way – I put on a brave front and kept smiling, and just cleaned the house from top to bottom for no reason!
Talking to someone who has been through the same journey helps, and so does keeping busy or
getting back to your hobbies with a fervour. You realise by the end of their first year being away
that they have created their own life and they need you less than before. We still hold on to
the strings…. then at graduation or even earlier, the realization hits you that it is time to cut the
strings completely and let go.
It is a tough time for all mothers but that is what life does, keeps throwing curveballs at us. Understand that life involves changes, accept them in good spirit and be gentle on yourself.

Volunteers Still Needed!
Ranches Ladies cannot run without the valuable work of our members who volunteer as board, committee members or helping out in other roles.
We still urgently need volunteers for the web-team – to help, post to Social Media, respond to messages and update the website.
If you have any spare time and would like to find out how you can help, please email email@example.com or send a message on the RL members WhatsApp Group.
