Ranches Ladies Newsletter

May Day 2020

The holy month of Ramadan has commenced.  There has been a relaxation of the strict restrictions.  Please follow all the social distancing guidelines issued by the government and have a safe and happy month

The CDA have sent this additional guidance:

Tuesday Morning Social

We have all missed our Tuesday social morning meet ups but Jackie has had a great idea.  We will have an RL Tuesday Social on 12 May via the social messaging app Zoom, just bring your own coffee.
Download the Zoom app to participate and email Jackie on circles.ranches.ladies@gmail.com to take part.

RL Circles News

Please contact Jackie on circles.ranches.ladies@gmail.com with your pictures, suggestions and activities.  We love to see what everyone is getting up to during this unusual time.

RL member Alexandra has been staying in Germany with her family after she and her husband contracted Covid-19.  Thankfully she has made a full recovery.

She sent a short message and pictures from the lockdown in Germany, SAARLAND at the French borders. The border to France is at the moment still closed – even married couples and families not allowed to meet each other…Whereas this duck family Alex took the photo of in the border river Saar seems to be united and happy.

Where are you at the moment? Please let us know and send some lovely photos

Book Circle

The Book Circle had a good meeting via zoom to discuss A Gentleman in Paris. Our next book is Grown Ups by Marian Keyes which will be in May. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for an actual meeting but if not, zoom is a good alternative!

The Literary Lunch Circle is reading the Lido by Libby Page

Crafts

Yvonne Laird’s friend introduced her to chalk paint to upscale furniture. So she’s been working her way through her old bedroom furniture of 17 years and giving it new life! Instead of getting rid and buying new.

The owner Muby of shabbymeetschic.com has been very helpful and Yvonne has joined her UAE furniture artisans Facebook page for tips and inspiration.

Anne has sent these instructions for Mask Mates.

Knitting wool has to be able to be washed at 40 degrees first. I am doing size 5 needles double knit or thicker ply. Cast on 30 stitches garter stitch for 12 rows ( knit every row ) cast off. Button each end. Can adjust size to suit.  Hospitals and Clinics are desperate for them

And you can make a mask! It is quite straightforward and everyone has to wear a face covering outside. It is difficult to source elastic at the moment so these masks have ties.  Watch “DIY Fabric Tie Face Mask with Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company” on YouTube

Giving Tuesday

The Giving Tuesday organisation has come up with a special global day of giving and unity in response to the COVID-19 emergency on May 5 2020.  More information is available on their website: https://now.givingtuesday.org/about/       #GivingTuesdayNow

Every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.  We can still show social connection and come together on behalf of our communities even while practicing physical distancing.

Kindness is contagious. Buy flowers or groceries for a neighbor, offer to walk a neighbor’s pets, call a friend, hang a heart or sign in your window, host a concert from your balcony.

We believe that generosity has the power to unite and heal communities in good times and bad. A global threat like COVID-19 touches every person on the planet, and it presents an opportunity to come together as a global community.

Jackie is planning to put a lot of plants in her driveway in La Avenida next Tuesday 5 May for GivingTuesdayNow for people to help themselves. Maybe other people have useful stuff to give away to anyone who wants it?
French

We are about to start our 1st zoom French lesson today. I don’t know why we haven’t thought of it earlier! Is anyone else continuing their language circles on social media during lockdown?
