Ranches Ladies Newsletter

Good morning Ranches Ladies!

Anyone for Tennis?

Whether you’re a player or a watcher, the sound of tennis racquets twanging and balls whizzing through the air is going to be front and centre starting today in London.

It’s the first day of Wimbledon and heralds in a firm favourite in the tennis calendar for many nationalities around the world.

Chronologically, it’s the third of four international tennis events following on from the Australian and French Open and coming before the US Open.

Wimbledon is synonymous with summer and tucking into strawberries and cream and hoping for long sunny days in a climate that is known to be quite changeable.

In contrast, Dubai has its own tennis traditions built around the Dubai Tennis Championships which are a yearly event happening usually in February when the weather is far more predictable.

It cements the interest in this sport within the top five of popular sports in the UAE and draws in the world’s top players and an enthusiastic crowd.

At a local residential and community level there are tennis academies, municipal park tennis courts and plenty of tennis clubs all offering plenty of opportunities to practice your skills whether it’s for competition, wellbeing or social engagement.

At the moment Ranches Ladies doesn’t have a tennis circle but maybe one of our newer or even an existing member would at some point in the future like to make it game, set and match for a new circle to be added to our portfolio. As with all our circles it’s a great way to make new friends and share in an enjoyable interest.

The Empowerment Program for Non-Profit Organizations

On behalf of Ranches Ladies, Hayet Zerelli and Josephine McBurney attended the first of many future workshops on Tuesday, 24th June 2025 hosted by The Community Development Authority (CDA) for Ethraa, The Empowerment program for Non-Profit Organisations where Ranches Ladies received a Gold Award in December 2024
https://www.mediaoffice.ae/en/news/2024/december/10-12/community-development-authority

The workshop was opened by H.E. Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of Community Development Authority along with H.E Huraiz Al Muir, CEO of the Regulatory and Community Services Sector, Samira Mohamed Shaloh, Managing Director of Dubai Quality Group and Dr Arif Fadhel Ahmed Jasim, Academic and Chairman of the Emirates Innovation Award.

The NPOs Empowerment Framework is a comprehensive and integrated system designed to bolster trust in Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) and the broader civil sector, particularly in Dubai. This framework emphasizes the crucial role that nonprofit organizations play in fostering societal impact while supporting commitments to philanthropy and civic engagement. By promoting a cooperative society, the framework aims to help human development and societal advancement, thereby enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

The guiding principles of the Empowerment Framework are designed to enhance the quality of life and uphold community values. These principles advocate for advancing individual well-being while fostering an inclusive and dignified society based on justice and equity. Furthermore, professionalism in community work is emphasized, requiring ambitious standards in program design and execution to ensure credibility and measurable impact. The framework prioritizes sustainability and community responsibility, focusing on long-term program viability and fair resource stewardship, particularly for marginalized groups. Transparency and accountability are also critical, promoting ethical governance and initiative-taking communication to build stakeholder trust.

The Ethraa initiative stands for Dubai’s highest honour for NPOs that show excellence in community impact and institutional resilience. By championing institutional excellence and sustainable stewardship, Ethraa recognizes organizations that improve resource use and financial resilience. This initiative aims to accelerate tech-powered social innovation and set global standards for transparency and impact integrity. The Ethraa framework seeks to drive strategic alignment with national aims, such as UAE Vision 2031 and the Dubai Social Development Agenda, while fostering cross-sector partnerships to maximize community impact and show new benchmarks for social stewardship in the Emirates.
