Summer Solstice

This astronomical yearly event is all about the tilt of the Earth and its rotation around the Sun.

Consistently happening in June, the 21st marks Midsummer for the Northern Hemisphere, when the hours of the day will be at their longest and night hours at their shortest.

It is an exact moment when the ‘tilt’ of the Earth is in its most tilted position towards the Sun and along with the Equinoxes, the Summer Solstice helps determine the seasons on Earth.

For those of you interested in the meaning of words Solstice is derived from the Latin sol (Sun) and sistere (to stand still). Hence the phenomenon that the ancients believed was when the Earth stands still.

Many cultures around the world have special traditions and historical celebrations to mark the Solstice which include gatherings, lighting bonfires and other significant rituals.

They are all designed to honour the return of the lighter days, encourage fertility and acknowledge the warmth back to the land.

So for anyone who’s keen to set intentions for the upcoming season or connect with nature by spending time on the beach or in the desert, or even in another natural place if you’re away from Dubai. For all Ranches Ladies everywhere there’ll be an opportunity to celebrate this event and consider a magical point in the year’s calendar.

Tuesday Coffee Morning

Ranches Ladies Tuesday coffee mornings takes place at Larte, Studio One Hotel, from 10:30am to 12pm. Ladies of all ages, wherever you live, are welcome to join us.

Celebrating her birthday ahead of 15th June, Carole Binbrek was treated to a special birthday occasion by her friends.

Who’s At Our Coffee Morning?

If you have any plans or thoughts on travelling Ranches Ladies Wendy Bird would be a good person to talk to when you hear of what she’ll be doing this summer.

She likes living in Dubai as it’s a great base to go exploring and it was the springboard to a trip to Vietnam at Easter.

At the end of the month she’s off to the UK, followed by a visit to the Florida theme parks and a cruise round the Bahamas. Next it’s back to the UK for a couple of weeks and then a return to Dubai for a few days.

After that, the Maldives are calling for a ten day vacation but her real hope is to one day visit Japan.

So having lived in Dubai for five years, there’s every chance it’ll be a dream achieved at some point.

And whenever she’s here in Dubai it’s the Lunch Circle, the Afternoon Tea Circle and any day’s out that she finds herself involved in.

All in all, a great way to share her adventures with our cosmopolitan international community!

The Art Circle
