Good morning Ranches Ladies!
A Day for Cultural Diversity

On Wednesday 21st May a World Day for Cultural Diversity will be observed as a day to promote diversity and intercultural dialogue. Established by UNESCO in 2001, with the aim to encourage cultural diversity as an integral part of development. As well as to protect the world’s cultural diversity from the risk of globalization. The document which followed was designed to set out actions that member states of the UN could take to promote the “common heritage of humanity”.
By 2002 a UN Resolution unanimously announced 21st May as World Day for Cultural Diversity and led to further international efforts to promote diversity as a shared goal.
Through the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity UNESCO has worked to encourage a new interpretation of culture. So that the potential of culture would be a way to achieve prosperity, engage in sustainable development and global peaceful coexistence.
It has to be said that given the range and diversity of Ranches Ladies members it doesn’t go unnoticed that we are our own united nations, sharing and interacting with women from around the globe.
From Aquafit to Gardening, Pilates to Scrabble or even the International Lunch Circle. There are a myriad of other Circles available to enjoy too, providing moments which can be spent with someone from a different culture and gaining first hand insights into other worlds.
A golden opportunity to learn about diversity in the truest sense of the word.

Take Your Idea to the Next Level

Dear Ranches Ladies Members
Unfortunately due to unexpected surgery our presenter for Relationships, Aspirations & Challenges is now unable to give the presentation. We have managed to find a replacement presenter at short notice.
Please see the new poster for Tuesday 20th May 2025 with Tricia Hamilton. A presentation giving fruit for thought!
Do sign up and enjoy an informative interactive presentation.
International Lunch

Last Thursday thirteen Ranches Ladies enjoyed an authentic Indonesian lunch cooked by our new member from Indonesia Hasti Tarekat. Hasti was newly returned from Indonesia where she bought the spices and special cake for the lunch. She cooked many of my favourites, beef rendang, a Sumatran special dish, gado gado – a salad of many vegetables with a peanut sauce and rice cooked with coconut and spices to name a few dishes.
The ladies also enjoyed a short tour of my sitting room and staircase where they could see many examples of Indonesian furniture and wall hangings.. The tablecloths were hand made batik and Carole, Hasti and another new lady Sze Ling wore batik outfits.
I am always looking for ladies to offer to cook food from their country for this circle from September onwards.

Her vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness have touched the hearts of everyone at Ranches Ladies. As she embarks on this new chapter, we wish her all the best—may her days be filled with joy, health, and cherished moments surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Nancy, for being an incredible inspiration to us all. Here’s to many more wonderful years ahead!

The Book Circle

The Book Circle had a very interesting morning discussing Elif Shafak’s, There Are Rivers in the Sky. This amazing novel weaves together three stories with a central connecting theme of water. Along the way, we learnt about Ancient Mesopotamia, Cuneiform writings, the tragic history of the Yazedi people and the interconnection of life and water. I think all of us plan to visit the British Museum at some point to see the ancient tablets and the fabulous Lamassu for ourselves!
As one of the characters in this book says “Books, it seems to me, do not end, even when we are finished reading them”
The Art Circle
