How To Glow During Ramadan.

Ramadan is a time of reflection, spiritual growth, and renewal. But between fasting, late-night prayers, and changes in routine, your skin and energy levels may take a hit. Dehydration, disrupted sleep, and poor nutrition can leave you looking and feeling dull. The good news? With the right habits, you can maintain a vibrant glow throughout Ramadan, both inside and out.
1. Hydrate The Right Way
Fasting can leave your skin looking dry and tired if you’re not hydrating properly. Instead of gulping water right before Suhoor or after Iftar, focus on hydration that lasts.
Smart Hydration Tips:
- Space it out – Sip small amounts between Iftar and Suhoor instead of drinking too much at once.
- Electrolytes matter – Add a pinch of Himalayan salt or coconut water to help your body retain fluids.
- Eat your water – Cucumbers, watermelon, oranges, and soups hydrate better than plain water.
2. Glow Boosting Foods For Suhoor And Iftar
Your diet plays a huge role in your skin’s radiance. Choose foods rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, and hydration-supporting nutrients.
Suhoor Super Foods:
- Avocados and nuts (healthy fats for supple skin)
- Bananas and dates (potassium for hydration
- Oats and chia seeds (fibre to prevent dryness)
Iftar Glow-Boosters:
- Leafy greens and colourful veggies (vitamins for a natural glow)
- Lentils, salmon and eggs (protein to support collagen)
- Dark chocolate and berries (antioxidants to fight dullness)
3. Prioritise Beauty Sleep
Lack of sleep can lead to puffy eyes, breakouts, and dull skin. Since schedules shift during Ramadan, quality rest is more important than ever.
Better Sleep Tips:
- Stick to a routine – Even with Suhoor, aim for 6-7 hours of sleep.
- Support your skin – Use a silk pillowcase to reduce wrinkles and hair breakage.
- Unplug before bed – Avoid screens 30 minutes before sleeping for better rest.
4. Keep Skin Care Simple And Hydrating
Fasting may make your skin more sensitive, so focus on gentle and nourishing products.
- Morning: Apply a lightweight moisturiser and SPF.
- Night: Cleanse, use a hydrating serum, and lock in moisture with an oil like rosehip.
- Bonus Glow Tip: Try a DIY honey and yogurt face mask for instant brightness.
5. Reduce Stress And Embrace Self Care
Stress can show up on your skin, causing breakouts and dullness. Ramadan is about spiritual and emotional balance, so prioritise mindfulness.
Self-Care for a radiant Mind and Body:
- Take deep breaths or try light yoga.
- Use calming essential oils like lavender.
- Prioritise reflection and gratitude: true beauty comes from within.
By staying hydrated, eating nutrient-rich foods, getting enough rest, and caring for your skin, you can maintain a radiant glow throughout Ramadan. When you nourish your body and soul, your inner light will shine effortlessly!

The Ranches Ladies Gold Award

You may have heard that the Ranches Ladies won a prestigious award recently and consequently might be wondering what it was and why they won it.
Well, let me map out the details because it really is something special!
The Community Development Authority in Dubai (CDA) which is responsible for establishing and developing plans for social expansion within the Emirate under the guidance of the Director General Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, and facilitated by the Ethraa Empowerment Program for Non-Profit Organisations, created an initiative to evaluate and honour the contribution made to society in Dubai by non-profit organisations. The intention was to recognise the part NGO’s played that, “demonstrated a strong commitment to develop sustainable and innovative solutions that address the needs of society in a holistic and integrated manner “.
Also, this award reflects organisations whose missions and services are in harmony with the Dubai Social Agenda 2033 framework, that aims to foster inclusivity, community development and societal wellbeing.
With the RL having a pedigree of nearly 20 years of service a decision was made to submit an application to enter the group for consideration in this initiative.
RL had to present comprehensive details (in Arabic) to show they fulfilled the precise criteria that, “reflect the quality of their service and their alignment with Dubai’s social development priorities “.
The evaluation criteria were robust and focused on several key aspects and considered a number of important matters including diversity, services offered, creativity and innovation in developing solutions for social challenges.
As a result RL received a Gold Award which highlighted that they had established a benchmark for excellence. Their commitment to quality and innovation was noticeable and aligned with the policy of the CDA. Significantly, the encouragement and motivation that thrives in non-profit organisations are both requirements to being successful in gaining an award of this kind and to maintaining growth of its members in its scheduled meetings. So, looking at the current active participation of women in RL, it would seem that there is a bright future ahead for everyone. As well as there being plenty of opportunities to engage in social interactions!

The Power of Colour

On Tuesday, 25th February 2025 we were treated to an inspiring presentation about The Art of Colour by Christine Markey. We were introduced to basic colour theory and how to use this theory in order to find harmonious colour combinations.
The 60:30:10 rule is a useful guideline, that says to use 60% of a dominant colour, 30% of a secondary shade and 10% of an accent shade. (Useful for putting outfits together too).
To create cohesion, Christine encouraged us to not be afraid of colour and to trust our own unique ideas.
Creativity and letting your own personality shine through is key to the decor in your home.
The colour of 2025 is ‘mocha mousse’, a warm brown colour which will create a welcoming environment.
She also suggested that we transform our spaces by using paint and mirrors.
She said it was important to determine your own interior style, for example Scandinavian or Bohemian.
Colour, also has a psychological impact on those around it. A pink room has been used experimentally in prisons to calm down known violent offenders and remarkably this did work.
A great morning was had by all and we left our coffee morning full of inspiration to tackle our own living spaces with new ideas for using colour.

Celebrating Women, in UAE

In celebrating International Women’s Day on the 8th March, we reflect on what it means to be part of a thriving, diverse, and inspiring community. One that brings together women from all walks of life, each with their own stories, dreams, and ambitions.
This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action”, reminds us that progress is ongoing, and as women, we continue to uplift and empower each other in countless ways.
Being part of the Ranches Ladies community is more than just a social group, it is a home away from home for many of us. It offers a space where we can learn, share, and grow, whether through book clubs, poetry sessions, coffee mornings, or engaging presentations. Some find companionship, others find an escape from the daily hustle, and for many, it is simply a place to belong.
With Ranches Ladies recently receiving a ‘Gold Award’ through the Ethraa Empowerment Program, we celebrate not just our achievements but also the potential for even greater things ahead. The wisdom, experience, and support shared among us are invaluable. Here, we are surrounded by women who have traveled, explored, and lived through stories worth telling, and there is so much to learn from each other.
As we move forward, let’s continue to connect, inspire, and grow, ensuring that this community remains a beacon of strength, friendship, and empowerment for years to come.
Happy International Women’s Day!
