A Whiff of Magic

On Tuesday 11th of June, Ranches Ladies enjoyed and interesting and informative presentation on Craniosacral Therapy by Muriël Meerman of The Balanced Space, based in Arabian Ranches 1. Muriël tried other alternative therapies before completing a two-year degree course in Craniosacral therapy, a complementary therapy somewhere between Reiki and Osteopathy, and has never looked back!
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle ‘hands on’ (or sometimes ‘hands free’ if the client prefers) non-invasive treatment and is not a massage. Muriël always tells her client what she will do next, starting at the feet, generally, but depending on the client’s needs, she will move her hands to the head, neck, shoulders, lower back and then back to the feet. She explained how the body might respond to her touch and problems that can be helped by this therapy, such as headaches, anxiety, sleeplessness, tinnitus, menopausal symptoms, aches and pains. Muriël also made it VERY clear that Craniosacral therapy does NOT and SHOULD NOT replace any medical treatment nor prescribed medication being taken. It is a complementary therapy that can be used alongside medical treatments, helping the body to heal itself.
The audience was very interested and asked lots of questions. I shared that I had already had two sessions with Muriël and felt like a new woman! Personally, I am a great believer in alternative therapies but I fully appreciate that many people are skeptical. I recently suffered from Vertigo, Achilles tendonitis, and chronic lower back pain. Acupuncture didn’t result in the success I had hoped for. So, once I found out that Muriël, who is a Ranches Ladies member, offered this therapy, I booked an appointment.
I was reassured by Muriël’s calm and sympathetic manner. I felt very relaxed and safe during the therapy, with eyes closed my mind drifted off to some of my favourite places! Then suddenly something truly magical happened! I had lost most of my sense of smell over 10 years ago but I was suddenly aware of a beautiful fragrance in the room – a scented candle I hadn’t smelt before! Later that evening, I was almost overwhelmed by the smell of jasmine wafting from our neighbours’ garden….something I hadn’t smelled for many years! Muriël was delighted when I told her this … but not as delighted as I was! Since then, I can’t say my sense of smell has returned completely but an occasional whiff of something nice, like the smell of coffee, makes my day!! Oh, and my Vertigo is diminishing daily, the tendonitis only flares up occasionally and my lower back is virtually pain free! I can at last take the dog for a walk!
I must add that this is my personal experience, and it is up to every individual to see what works for them, and always follow medical advice.

The Art Circle, led by Rajul, had a lovely class last Thursday, with ladies making some beautiful paintings.

Fitness Walking Circle
The Fitness Walking Circle have moved inside for the hotter months. New ladies are always welcome to join.
Meet 9am sharp on Mondays at Dubai Hills Mall outside Marks and Spencer’s. Closest parking is via Entrance E, Sharaf DG Parking P1. We walk for around one hour and have coffee afterwards at Marks & Spencer’s coffee shop.

Jewellery Clinic and Open House
If you have a piece of jewellery that has sentimental value or some that you don’t wear anymore and would like to give them a new life, Hayet can help you redesign it or fix it and enjoy wearing it again.
The next Jewellery Clinic and Open House is planned for Thursday 20th June from 10am to 5pm, in Arabian Ranches 1. Come along for a free jewellery up-cycling consultation, and browse a range of hand-made items.

Marina Fitness Walking Circle
The Marina Fitness Walking Circle are walking in either Ibn Battuta Mall or Mall Of The Emirates on alternate Wednesday mornings. They intend to continue throughout the summer apart from a couple of weeks which will be announced in advance.
