Introduction to Calligraphy Workshop
Calligraphy is a visual art related to writing which has been adopted by a number of cultures and languages. It is the design and execution of lettering with a pen, ink brush, or other writing instrument. Contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as “the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner”. Modern calligraphy is any calligraphy style that does not follow the fundamental rules of traditional calligraphy scripts such as Copperplate, Spencerian, Italic, Blackletter, etc. Modern calligraphy relies on certain principles of traditional calligraphy. However, it can provide you with more creative freedom.
Introduction to Calligraphy workshop will be on Tuesday, 28th May 2024, in the Meeting room on the 2nd floor of Studio One Hotel.
Arrive by 9.30am to enjoy self service tea or coffee before the workshop starting at 10am.
This workshop, which will focus on an introduction to calligraphy using the English language alphabet

Poetry Circle
The theme for the next Poetry Circle, on Monday 27th May, is ‘Love.’
The Poetry Circle usually meet once a month to share and discuss poems on a theme.

Lunch Circle
The next Lunch Circle outing is planned for Wednesday 29th May at Duomo Italian restaurant at the Edition Hotel, Dubai Fountain Street, Downtown. This lunch is already full with a waiting list.
As announced in the last newsletter, our Lunch Circle leader, Karen Weaving, is leaving Dubai and will be greatly missed. Two or three other Lunch Circle members have also volunteered to assist Karen Richardson in leading the Lunch Circle.
The Lunch Circle will not be meeting in July and August as many people are travelling, and hope to restart in September.

Art Circle
The Art Circle had a lovely class last week, with ladies working on challenging projects with some great outcomes.
The Art Circle, led by Rajul, usually meet on Thursdays from 10am to 12 noon in Arabian Ranches 1. New members are welcome.

Uni Mums Circle
Last Tuesday 14th May, some of the Uni mums met up for lunch at Riviera at The Lana. They enjoyed great food and conversation.
Uni mums – a social group for those with kids at university – are meeting around once a term. They also have a WhatsApp group.

Cinema Circle
The Cinema Circle, led by Marina, meet on Mondays at Mall of the Emirates (provided there’s something good to see!) and often meet for coffee or lunch before or after the film. They have a Whatsapp and email group to decide on the film.

The Marina Fitness Walking Circle are are now walking indoors. See poster for details and contact information.
Fitness Walking Circle – Arabian Ranches 1
The Walking Circle are making the most of the cool weather with early morning walks on Mondays. From June, they plan to move to indoor walking for the summer months.
Meet on Monday mornings at 7am outside the main entrance of Arabian Ranches 1 community shopping centre.
We walk for approximately 1 hour depending on route and distance. Stay for tea/coffee afterwards back at the community centre if you have time. New ladies are welcome to join.
