Ramadan Recipes
Arabic Oats and Meat Shorba
We had some delicious food at our Ranches Ladies Pre-Ramadan Iftar and some of
the ladies have been kind enough to share their recipes.
This week, we have Arabic Oats and Meat Shorba.
Ingredients:
2 onions
1 cup oats
2-3 minced garlic cloves
1 cup tomato paste fresh or canned
400 gm meat
1 tbsp powdered pepper
1 tbsp salt
2 maggi seasoning cubes
2 tbsp butter / vegetable oil/ olive oil
4 Cinnamon sticks
12 Peppercorns about
1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
7-8 cups water (or more accordingly)
Method:
- In a wide and deep cooking pot, heat butter or oil. Add cinnamon stick and
peppercorns first. Next saute the onions and garlic for at least 2 minutes. - Add rest of the ingredients now including water. Cover it with a lid and let it
simmer on low flame for at least an hour until the meat becomes tender and
the soup gets thicker. The more the amount of oats added, the thicker the
soup will get. So add it according to your choice. If you do so, then increase
the amount of water and the other ingredients too. See to it that it is
simmered on a low heat. Oats render the thickness to it. - Keep stirring it at regular intervals to avoid it from burning or sticking to the
bottom. For a change, you can also add any of your favourite veggies.
Traditionally, it has nothing but meat and oats. But I do add some veggies
always. (like those of green peas and sweet corn) - Adjust salt according to taste. Serve it piping hot garnished with freshly
chopped coriander leaves.

Successful Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting was held via Zoom on Tuesday, 12th March, 2024.
Thank you to all RL members who attended the AGM. Also thank you to the CDA licensing authority, who attended and monitored the meeting, for their continuing support. We are very happy to report that the AGM has been accepted for this year.
Ranches Ladies has grown and developed since it was first started by Carole Binbrek over 18 years ago. This wonderful community would not continue to thrive without the goodwill and support of all its members. You make Ranches Ladies what it is.
A special thank you to our RL President, Hayet, all Board and Committee members, Circle Leaders, and other volunteers for all your hard work.
Coffee Morning Presentation – Furniture Upcycling
Come along to Larte on Tuesday 19th March for a special presentation by relovedfurniture on restyling and upcycling your old furniture. No need to sign up for this presentation, just come along for 10.30 am on Tuesday.

Hiking Circle
Three Ranches Ladies in the Hiking Circle experienced one of the most enchanting landscape scenery in the mountains of Fujairah, a few days after the recent heavy rains. The trail was along a continuous stream of water which we had to cross several times , as well as wild delicate purple and yellow flowers dotted everywhere. The air was crisp and the wind gentle enough to distract one from realising the temperature was a touch too warm at 10am when we were on our route back to our parked cars. This Wadi Al Lyat trek has been newly added and it will remain a favourite for many trekkers for its surroundings and a beginner’s level rating when one just wants a less difficult hike than usual. International Festival Lunch Circle
Do you have an upcoming festival from your country you would like to celebrate with Ranches Ladies?
The International Festival Lunch Circle is looking for volunteers to cook a lunch in April or May. You can get friends to help and will be reimbursed for the cost.

The Spanish Circle is on Thursdays at 10.30am in Larte, Studio One Hotel, Studio City. Maria will be teaching for beginners or those who already know a little Spanish.

The poetry circle meet once a month to share and discuss poems on a theme. The theme for the next meeting, planned for Monday 25th March, is Colours.

The Walking Circle are making the most of the cool weather with early morning walks on Mondays.
