Ranches Ladies Newsletter

Good Morning Ranches Ladies. Hope you have a great week.

Sharing our Skills

by Vidhya Michael

It was a great opportunity for the Quilters Circle to participate in the “Every Mind Matters” campaign at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University in October. Al Jalila Foundation extended the invitation to us as part of the World Mental Health Day celebration along the theme, ‘Mental Health is a Universal Human Right’. The Foundation had organised the ‘Be the Change Awareness Initiative’ to introduce medical students to the meditative quality of creative pursuits.

Gowri, Cynthia, Engy, Tasneem, and I relished mingling with the students and watched them enjoy learning a new skill. It was nice to see male and female students coming up to our table and grasping this skill quite easily. We had made basic flower motifs to start with. However, we had requests for palm trees, batman, and customised names by the end of the session. We had prepared 60 embroidery kits for them to take home, to pursue this newfound stress buster. The ladies were rewarded with thankful students and certificates for volunteering their time and effort. This event made us realise that there is nothing more fruitful than sharing our skills with the next generation or anyone who needs it.

Aid for Gaza

Photo from: https://www.khaleejtimes.com

Ranches Ladies have been shocked and deeply saddened to see the loss of life and human suffering in Israel and Palestine, especially in Gaza, where aid is desperately needed.

The Emirates Red Crescent has partnered with the World Food Programme, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Community Development, to launch ‘Tarahum for Gaza’ (Compassion for Gaza), a country-wide fundraising campaign to provide relief aid to the Palestinian people impacted by the war in the Gaza Strip.

You can donate online: https://www.emiratesrc.ae/Gaza/Default_en.aspx

Also, there are many places where you can drop off packages containing canned food, blankets, clothes and other essential items. These include Mall of the Emirates, all City Centre Malls, Emirates Red Crescent donation centres, and Warehouse A1 in Alserkal Avenue.
